Property prices jump again
The gradual recovery in the housing market has continued after the Land Registry revealed house prices recorded a monthly rise of 0.9% in September, up from 0.5% in August. It means the average price of a home in England and Wales now stands at £158,377, representing an annual drop of 5.6%. It is the fifth month in a row in which the annual rate of decline has eased and is significantly higher than the low of minus 16.3% seen in February. London experienced the greatest monthly rise with a movement of 1.3%, taking the average property price in the capital to £314,954. Completed sales, which have risen steadily each month since January, were 9% up on a year earlier.
