BTL optimism returns
Landlords expect the value of their property portfolios to increase over the next 12 months, the first positive prediction for more than two years, Paragon Mortgages has revealed. In its latest quarterly survey, landlords predicted, on average, a 0.8% increase in portfolio values over the coming year. They have also been taking advantage of the weakness in house prices since the start of 2007 to add to their portfolios. Landlords now own on average 12 properties compared with 11 at the beginning of 2007. "Despite strong rental demand and the availability of property at good value prices, landlords may well be frustrated in their attempts to buy because of a shortage of buy-to-let finance," said John Heron, Paragon Mortgages' managing director.
